I provide prenatal care in your home, or any place of your choosing. I will do my best to accommodate the timing of the prenatal visits so that your partner can be present as well.
For the first seven months, we will see each other once a month. In the eighth month, we will see each other twice, and in the ninth month, we will see each other once a week until the baby is born.
Prenatal visits generally last an hour-and-a-half. I check your blood pressure, pulse rate, and your urine for protein and sugar, and listen to the baby’s heart. We will be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat as early as ten weeks with the Doppler, and a little later with the fetoscope. I measure the height of the uterus (fundus) to see how the baby has grown and palpate the belly to see what position the baby is in. Discovering that there is a foot kicking you under your ribs is part of making our prenatal care an exciting experience.
Getting to know one another is an important part of your prenatal care. I want you to feel comfortable with me and me with you. I won’t be a stranger at one of the most intimate and miraculous times in your life… giving birth. The laboring mother should be able to express herself in whatever way she wants; she intuitively knows how to give birth.
I am always accessible by phone, day or night, should you have any concerns or questions that need my attention.
